ABOUT KALADI'S
Kaladis Coffee Bar was born from a simple weekend getaway that turned into a lifelong dream.
When my wife, Carmela, and I traveled from Chicago to Galena, we fell in love with the town but couldn’t find a single great cup of coffee. On the drive home, we kept asking ourselves: "What if Galena had a warm, welcoming place where people could slow down and enjoy a truly incredible brew?"
That question led us to the very roots of coffee history. The name Kaladis is inspired by the ancient legend of Kaldi, a goat herder in Ethiopia who discovered the coffee bean after noticing his herd gain a burst of energy from eating bright red cherries. It was a discovery that sparked a centuries-old tradition of bringing people together.
We wanted to bring that exact spirit of energy and connection to Galena. On September 16, 2000, Kaladis Coffee Bar officially opened its doors.
For over 26 years, Kaladis has become a part of the fabric of this community. We honor that original coffee story every single day, serving as a local landmark where friends meet, visitors feel welcome, and conversations happen naturally. What started as a weekend realization has grown into a beloved staple built on passion, hard work, and a genuine love for great coffee.
